Wireless Project at Camp Hebron

TCW Computer Systems recently completed a major wireless install for Camp Hebron located in Halifax, PA. Below is the article from Camp Hebron's newsletter discussing the value for them. Since the writing of the article the wireless was completed allowing both staff and guests to access high speed Internet throughout the facility.

	High Speed Internet Has Arrived

Camp Hebron has finally joined the modern cyber-world. It took a lot of ingenuity from our “techie” friends to make it happen. The service is actually located a mile and a half away and the signal is beamed across the valley to our new 125 foot tower that was erected on Breezewood Hill in June. After many years of anticipation and, sometimes, patient waiting; the office is now blessed with a high speed internet connection. Later this summer the project will be completed with wireless access at Sylvan and Mountainside Haven also available to our guests. We are grateful to Lamar Weaver of TCW for his assistance in the planning and installation and for all who have supported this project financially.

Microsoft Windows 7 Released

October 22, 2009 brought the launch of a new operating system from Microsoft that will be replacing Windows Vista and the previous Windows XP operating systems. Microsoft has released 7 Generations of their operating system.

What does this mean for businesses and individuals looking for new computers? Should Windows 7 be installed on all new computers? Which version is needed? Does Window 7 work? Should we wait for the first service pack? There are many questions regarding this release especially with the bad press around Windows Vista. Obviously it is too early to know the compatibly for businesses specifically. Home users will be able to switch to Windows 7 sooner than businesses simply because many home applications are already compatible with Windows 7.

TCW Computer Systems has installed Windows 7 on several of our production computers ahead of the launch, giving us the chance to test before deploying it to our clients. Windows 7 has worked very well for us overall, much better than our experience with the launch of Vista . Still, we recommend that businesses test Windows 7 in their environment before making a complete switch. As with any new operating system, potential application compatibility issues should be considered. But Windows 7 includes a feature called “XP Mode” that is specifically designed to limit compatibility issues for older Windows XP applications, making Windows 7 a good choice for companies needing to run legacy applications.

If you would like to see Microsoft Windows 7 please visit TCW’s Lancaster East or West location or give us a call to see how it will work in your home or business.

Glick Audio and Video Celebrates 50 Years with Week of Events

After providing Lancaster County with 50 years of custom technology solutions, Glick Audio and Video is thanking the community with a week-long anniversary celebration.

Between October 31 and November 7, the technology integration firm will host a series of free seminars on home entertainment and business productivity solutions.

Surrounded by pastures and neighbors who tilled their fields with horses, the Glick family opened their doors in 1959 as a rural retail outlet for Wollensak recording equipment and Magnavox consoles.

As the years went by, electronics became a part of everyday life in the home and workplace.

“Our company has grown to include custom home theater and commercial products like HD video conferencing that enable businesses to cut costs and increase productivity,” said manager Jim Bowman.

Amidst the growth of new technologies, Glick Audio and Video continues to offer repair servces on turntables and equipment sold years ago.

“Many of our customers developed into friends over the years,” said Vernon Glick whose father founded the business. “In some families, we have had second and third-generation buyers.”

In 2004, the Glick family sold the business to Manheim-based TCW Computer Systems, Inc.

The merger allowed Glick Audio and Video to introduce new services to the community at a time when other audio and video companies were struggling or going out of business.

“Glick Audio and Video is a personable brand that allows us to share our computer networking experience with more individuals in the community,” said Lamar Weaver, owner of TCW Computer Systems, Inc.

“Computer technology is not only at the heart of business presentation and communication solutions,” said Weaver, “it is now a driving force in home entertainment delivery.”

During the week-long anniversary celebration, nightly product demonstrations will be held in the showrooms at 1920 Lincoln Highway East in Lancaster.

An event schedule is posted online at http://www.glickav.com.
